iPod Accessories
In the half decade since Apple introduced the iPod, an entire industry has grown around accessories for the popular line of MP3 players. These accessories are designed to help protect iPods from damage, carry them in style, connect them to car radios or other external speakers, and to facilitate a myriad of other uses. Apple has its own line of accessories for iPods, but there are also third party companies, specializing in the creation of accessories that are compatible with iPods. iPod Cases An iPod comes with a few standard accessories: headphones, a USB cable to connect it to the computer, and a generic cover to protect the iPod. One of the most common accessories that people first purchase after for their iPods is a stylish cover. These covers range from inexpensive stretchy "socks" that snuggly fit over an iPod to leather cases that run over a hundred dollars. When purchasing a case, make sure that it is the right size for your iPod. Also, it is helpful to make sure the case allows access to the headphone and USB ports, as well as visibility to the screen and click wheel. It is not uncommon for some people to purchase several cases and change them, much like changing a handbag or shoes. iPod Car Accessories Accessories have been created to make it possible to listen to the iPod through your car's stereo speakers. One of the most reasonably priced options is a cassette adapter. For cars with cassette decks, the cassette adapter is compatible with the iPod headphone receiver. The music then plays through the cassette deck. Another affordable option is a wireless FM transmitter. It too connects to the headphone output and is powered by batteries or the car's cigarette lighter. It then sends a signal through your car radio. More expensive options allow you to run a direct line from your iPod, and into your car's stereo system; these options cost more but produce the best sound quality. Other car accessories include chargers that prevent your iPod from running out of power and docks that hold your iPod securely while you drive. There are even docks that are made to fit inside of cup holders. iPod Home Accessories Accessories have been created to allow you to share your iPod music with everyone. Small portable speakers are available, allowing you to connect your iPod through cables. More advanced speaker systems are available with built in iPod docks; these can be portable or permanent. To play an iPod through an existing stereo system, there are stereo mini plug-to-RCA cables that connect your iPod directly to your receiver. Or, you can connect a dock to your stereo system and simply plug-in your iPod whenever you want. Also popular are accessories such as upgraded headphones or "Y" adapter cables that allow two people to listen to a single iPod. One of the newest and most extreme iPod accessories is the iPod underwear. Known as iBoxers, they have a little pouch in them to securely hold an iPod near and dear. | ||
