Voice Lessons
Voice lessons are taken by individuals who wish to learn how to use their voices to improve their singing abilities. Complete beginners and seasoned professionals alike rely on voice lessons to strengthen their voices, expand their range of notes, practice singing different music genres (popular music, opera, or country), learn how to project their voices, pronounce each vowel and consonant, and improve confidence in singing ability. Benefits of Voice Lessons Voice lessons are an important part of the singing profession because it is extremely difficult to hear any mistakes made when singing alone. Through voice lessons, a singer learns how to breathe properly and find his or her own unique "voice," or style of singing. Voice lessons are instrumental to learning the proper technique for different styles of music; for example, opera singers use what is called a "head voice," while pop singers use what is called a "chest voice," to project their words. Usually given on an individual basis, voice lessons enable the singer to learn at his or her own pace. Typically, they are tailored to particular genres of music. The first half of the one-hour lesson is dedicated to voice exercises and learning skills, such as the practice of scales. The second half is dedicated to practicing those skills by singing a variety of songs, including rock, jazz, folk, or Broadway musicals. Voice lessons might also include performance techniques, music interpretation, and instruction on how to use a microphone. continued | ||
