Percussion Musical Instruments

Percussion is a critical element in any musical ensemble. Although there are some musical ensembles that do not include percussion elements, this is very rare. It is the percussion that drives the rhythm and beat of music, making it a necessary element for keeping the rest of the musicians on beat.

By definition, a percussion instrument is one that produces a musical sound when struck, shaken, rubbed, or scraped. Percussion instruments are among the earliest known instruments, dating back as early as 6000 BC and playing a role in just about every ancient culture. Today, a large variety of percussion instruments is available.
