Mandolins
Mandolins are stringed instruments. The method of playing them is similar to playing a guitar. Their sound, however, is more like a violin because of the tuning. Mandolins have a long, rich history around the world, and are experiencing a resurgence of popularity because of their unique sound and ease of use. They make a simpler-to-learn alternative to the guitar and violin. What Do Mandolins Look Like? Mandolins come in different shapes, the most common of which are the pear shape and the lute shape. They have smaller bodies than guitars, and are usually rounded. The neck of the mandolin is similar to a guitar, with tuning pegs at the top to adjust the sound. Mandolins have eight strings that are paired together. Thus, even though there are eight strings, only four notes are produced. Mandolins can come in other varieties, with five or six string pairs, but the four string pairs are the most common form. continued | ||
