Guitar Amplifiers

About Music

Guitar amplifiers are used with electric guitars to produce sound. Electric guitars depend on amplifiers, or amps, to interpret an electrical signal created when the strings vibrate. Electric guitars on their own make very little sound at all; amps enable them to create music that can be heard. They are also used to create distortion and other effects popular among guitar players.

Types of Guitar Amps

There are many different types and brands of amplifiers available. The two most common varieties are combo amplifiers and amplifier heads. Combo amplifiers combine amps with loudspeakers. Thus, the entire sound system is contained in one piece of equipment that translates the signals and plays them. Separate systems involve an amplifier head connected by cables to a loudspeaker system. The amplifier head usually sits on top of the speakers.
