Gibson Guitar Mandolins
The Gibson Method Perhaps even more important to the guitar industry was the method Gibson created for crafting the mandolins, a method which carried on to the manufacturing of the guitars Gibson would eventually become famous for. Oliver Gibson believed in a fusion of man and machine; by acquiring or inventing machines that could produce much of the labor he was able to cut down on time and costs, producing a high volume of product; but hiring exceptionally skilled human workers when a delicate touch was needed, he could take these mass-produced instruments and provide them with the quality tone and shaping they needed. The Gibson Company forever cemented itself in the minds of guitarists everywhere as the premier guitar company in the 1950's. In 1952 Gibson produced a solid-bodied guitar designed in part by popular guitar player Les Paul. The Les Paul models from Gibson are legendary today. There were other innovations during this time as well, such as the Flying V and Gibson Explorer, both shaped in ways that seemed to scream to be played, and played they were. Such hard-hitting guitarists as Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin and Angus Young of AC/DC loved the Les Paul models. Today many young guitar players dream of the day they can own and play a classic Les Paul, and revere the name of the Gibson Guitar. back | ||
