Clarinet Music

Clarinets are the most versatile of the woodwind family. They have a great range for volume, from very soft to very loud, that distinguishes them. They can also play a wide range of notes and octaves. The sound of the notes blends very well with other instruments. Because of this, the clarinet is featured prominently in many ensemble pieces. Clarinets also have a beautiful, rich tone that lends itself well to solo pieces. Clarinet-piano duets are very common, as the sounds compliment each other very well.

In addition to the vast repertoire of classical music, clarinets enjoy a wide use in jazz and Dixieland styles. They declined in popularity during the middle of the twentieth-century, but experienced a resurgence of interest and use toward the end of the century. They are also commonly used in concert bands. Because of their versatility and wide range, clarinets frequently form the core of concert bands.

Clarinets are used widely, and with good reason. Because of their superb control of volume, tone, and expression, as well as their rich notes and blending, clarinets add a quality and richness to all types of music in which they are used.
