Types of Bass Guitars

Bass guitars come in acoustic and electric varieties. Their sound is lower and deeper than normal guitars, and as such they have become invaluable in many types of music, offering a greater note-range than is available with normal electric and acoustic guitars. Electric bass guitars use an amplifier to project their sound, while acoustic bass guitars have hollow bodies to amplify the notes.

The Sound of a Bass Guitar

Bass guitars are actually based on the double bass, and used to create lower and deeper notes than are available otherwise. The type of sound achieved will depend on whether the bass guitar is electric or acoustic. Unlike electric guitars, electric bass guitars don't usually use a lot of feedback. Their sound is typically desired because it's cleaner.

The sound of the bass guitar will also depend on the type that is used. Traditionally, bass guitars had four strings. This is still the most popular type. The strings are tuned to E-A-D-G. There are also variants available with five strings, six strings, and those that are designed for different base notes.
