Acoustic Guitar
Acoustic guitars are guitars with metal strings and hollow bodies. They produce their sound by vibration and resonation. When the strings are picked, they vibrate at a certain frequency that is determined by how the guitar is tuned. This vibration resonates in the hollow body of the guitar, which makes the sound louder and richer. The Parts of an Acoustic Guitar There are several integral parts to making an acoustic guitar work and
sound the way it does. The headstock is at the very top of the guitar,
and has the knobs used for tuning the guitar. Next, along the neck of
the guitar are frets-thin metal strips. When the strings are pushed against
these, it shortens them, creating a different vibration and thus a different
note. The body of the guitar is key to the sound created. Because this
is where the notes resonate, it determines the quality, tone, and volume
created. Different materials, sizes, and shapes will affect the sound.
It is best to experiment with different bodies to determine the sound
you like best. The sound hole, or the hole in the middle of the body
underneath the strings, is where the amplified sound comes out. This
can come in different shapes, but a circle is most common. In addition
to these, there are, of course, the strings, which are tightened or loosened
in order to achieve the correct sound. | ||
